Technical Assessment & Review
Using a three-dimensional dynamic modelling software to calculate heat demands, considering various factors such as building fabric heat losses, ventilation heat losses, domestic hot water demands, system losses, and thermal responses.
Additionally, we assessed the U-values of different building elements and considered internal and solar gains, occupancy patterns, and equipment heat gains.
Heat Load Modelling
The heat load modeling process involved estimating the annual heat load for both space heating and domestic hot water (DHW) based on the dynamic thermal analysis results. Our calculations gave us an estimated annual heat load of the property.
We also determined the minimum boiler/heat pump size required to meet the peak thermal demand. These findings were crucial for selecting the appropriate heating and hot water solutions that would efficiently meet the property’s energy needs while ensuring cost-effectiveness and compliance with building regulations.
Financial Analysis and Recommendations
This analysis considered capital costs, running costs, and potential subsidies. Our goal was to identify the most cost-effective and environmentally sustainable solution.
Based on our findings, we recommend the use of an LPG Boiler for space heating, a heat pump for air handling and heating in the pool areas, underfloor heating combined with radiators in most spaces, and an LPG system with a cylinder for domestic hot water.
To offset carbon emissions, we suggest the incorporation of solar thermal and photovoltaic arrays.
